| Bipolar disorder "manic depressive" is the most common mental health problem used for these medications. They work by helping stablize or even out the highs and lows of bipolar disorder. For some patients, these cycles of highs and lows can be rapid and can change in days, for others the cycle may be longer. Bipolar disorder is thought to also occur in children and adolescents.
