| NDRI or norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors are medications that inhibit the reuptake of neurotransmitters of norephineprine and dopamine. These chemical messengers are associated with depression and help improve mood.
Buproprion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL) is the only medication in this class approved by the FDA to treat depression.
This medication comes in three forms, the immediate release, the slow release and the extended release form. The form and dosage given is dependent on symptoms, other medications being taken, previous trials and other concerns. Your health care provider will determine the form and dose best suited to you.
Side Effects can include:
loss of appetite
weight loss
headache
dry mouth
rash
sweating
ringing in the ears
stomach pain
agitation
anxiety
constipation
dizziness
trouble sleeping
nausea
Buproprion can sometimes cause increased blood pressure. You may be asked to have your blood pressure monitored.
Those patients who have had a head injury,seizure disorder or eating disorders should not be taking this medication. Alcohol use should be avoided and this medication should not be abruptly stopped. Also as always, your health care provider should be informed of all other medications being taken. |
